Welcome to Ghimire Foundation

The Madhav Ghimire Scholarship was established to help provide educational opportunities for the most neglected children of Nepal, especially young girls from the lowest caste who would otherwise be unable to attend school. The scholarship program is named in honor of Madhav Ghimire, the National Poet of Nepal, who has awakened his nation with a message of peace during a time of great political strife and national instability. Although now honored as one of his country's national treasures, Ghimire grew up as a child with few educational opportunities. It has been his compassion for similar children that has led him to write about the struggles of his people and offer hope for the future.

The guiding mission of the Madhav Ghimire Foundation is to raise funds from individuals and organizations to assist the children in rural Nepal—to improve the quality of their lives and provide opportunities for the future. Girls are selected based on financial need, as well as academic potential and performance. It costs so little money to sponsor a child's education, just $100 per year, which provides fees, school uniforms, books, and supplies for one year. Since the founders and administrative staff volunteer their time and expertise, there are few administrative costs and little overhead--90% of all money donated goes directly to the children's education. We are currently supporting over 60 children in 6 different villages and have plans to increase this number significantly in coming years, expanding the opportunities to many regions of the country.

The Madhav Ghimire Foundation is tax exempt charitable organization that is supported totally from contributions and volunteer efforts. It is registered in both Nepal and in the United States as a 501(c)(3).
