CARMEL MIDDLE SCHOOL
The answer came from a local parent, Barbara Sayad, who just returned from Under the leadership of teacher, Shelly Glennon, the children of Carmel Middle School decided not only to send the books to the children in the remote villages of Nepal, but also to raise significant funds to provide scholarships for the girls who might otherwise be sold or married off because of their poverty. In 2009, the students at Carmel Middle School donated their lunch money, gave presentations to groups, talked to parents and neighbors, raised awareness of the dire situation for children in Nepal. One student, Chris Good, won a poetry prize and donated his entire winnings to support children in Nepal. "These students," Shelly Gannon said, "took the term 'citizen of the world' to a whole new level. They learned to give for the pure joy of making the world a better place. May their light shine upon others so that they too can give of their time as selflessly as these 11 and 12 year olds." *********************************************************************************************************************** Corey Elementary School Many who hear about the desperate situation facing scores of needy girls in Nepal, and the mission of the Madhav Ghimire Foundation, feel compelled to help by donating money for scholarships. I have noticed that although the individuals who donate are giving a “gift” through their donation, they themselves have been given a “gift”. When we do something that truly helps another human being, there is a deep personal satisfaction. We are given the gift of love and happiness by helping to improve the life of those who truly need it. I feel thankful for the opportunity to help others in a variety of ways, and never want to take for granted the many blessings in my own life. --Heather Guay, 3rd grade teacher at Corey School
The first reason I brought money is because I like to help others. I brought ten dollars because my mom did not have much money either. When Ms. Guay went to Nepal she brought the money. This time, I’m bringing twenty dollars to help. Ms. Guay said she is going again this summer. Hassan – 3rd grade student * * * * * * * Nepal is a very poor place but rich in their heart. I gave money to Nepal because it came from my heart. Ms. Guay is a very nice teacher because she brought the money to Nepal. I think you are my friends and even if I am a poor boy, I am rich in my heart. If someone gave me money I would feel so happy, even my family would feel happy. That would be a surprise. That would be beautiful I think. --Jose- 3rd grade student * * * * * * * I helped to make them happy, I want the girls to go to school, you should always help a friend. When we first learned about the Madhav Ghimire Foundation from one of our authors, there was no question about whether or not we could provide support. The question was: How could we not? --Dana Katz, Director of Philanthropy and Corporate Responsibility * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
